How do I get work on the oil fields?

Landing a job used to be a piece of cake. More people have gone to North Dakota seeking work so employers can afford to be more picky. There's still plenty of jobs however. Housing is the bigger issue, there's a huge housing shortage and you can't exactly live in your car through a North Dakota winter.

The best way to get your resume special attention is by having a local address, a local phone number, and permanent housing lined up. That way the oil companies know you are there and ready to start and they don't have to wait for you to make your way out there, risk you going home because you can't find housing after they spend time and money training you.

There are many jobs out there whether you want to be a roughneck working on the rigs, driving trucks, or even any job in North Dakota is high paying because of the demand for workers there. I've seen restaurant advertising that they pay waitresses $18 per hour where as the normal is probably $3 an hour plus tips.

Good Luck!!!

  1. Can I find work without a CDL? I do not want to drive and I owe money to 're instate. That's why I am looking for work. To pay fines. Non criminal and non duo. I want to be a roustabout /floorman but have no experience. I have read plenty and am eager to work and learn.

    1. Yes there's plenty of jbos besides truck driving jobs in North Dakota. That said the more skill sets you have the more employable you are. Think about it if you work on a rig and can also drive a truck you are more vaulable to them if they need something hauled that day and are short a driver. None the less there's plenty of jobs without having a CDL. Are you looking to work on a rig or in a support position or outside of the oil industry altogether. Heck even retail and restaurant jobs are paying like $20 an hour because nobody wants those jobs everyone wants the even higher paying oil jobs. HOusing is going to be your biggest issue. Have housing lined up before getting their or wait til summer when you can camp or sleep in a car.
